The Kansas Soybean Commission and the soybean checkoff support research to fight all yield-robbing diseases and pests. Research to help farmers improve production practices and improve their profits is a high priority for the soybean checkoff.

Asian soybean rust is a high-profile disease and has received a high priority from the soybean checkoff. When it comes to rust, checkoff leaders encourage their fellow farmers to Scout. Monitor. Manage. Even though we avoided rust last year, the threat still remains. The soybean checkoff continues to work with USDA-ARS to identify lines of soybeans that are inherently resistant to rust. In addition, the soybean checkoff has joined with the North Central Soybean Research Program to establish sentinel plots in the Soybean Belt.

However, soybean rust is not the only yield-robbing disease or pest. Farmers need to monitor the overall health of their plants for any other yield-robbing diseases. Some of the top yield-robbing diseases and pests include soybean cyst nematode, aphids, white mold and sudden death syndrome. The soybean checkoff supports research to help farmers battle all these diseases and pests.
